The Surplus Store
Our story · Since 1947

Started by a Marine. Run the same way ever since.

Three-quarters of a century in Colorado. The product changed. The principle didn’t.

“Give the customer the highest quality products and service for the lowest possible price.”

That’s what Al Finer wrote down in 1947 when he came home from the war. He’d served in the Pacific with the Marine Corps, shipped back to Denver, and didn’t want to leave military gear behind entirely. So he took $500 — most of what he had — and opened a single surplus store.

The products changed over the decades. The locations grew. The brands on the rack today — Carhartt, Levi’s, Columbia, Dickies, Ariat, Rothco, and a thousand more — would’ve looked unfamiliar to Al in 1947. But the rule stayed the same.

Useful goods. Fair prices. Real service. The thrill of the find.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular for fifty years, we thank you for your business. We welcome your questions, your feedback, and your tough requests — that’s what we’re here for.
